Amber Walton-Amar, cello

Amber was born in the North West Territories of the Canadian arctic to artist parents Maureen Walton and Michael Amar. She began playing cello at age three, and spent her youth in rural eastern Ontario. During her growth as a cellist she lived in Holland, and studied in Italy and Germany. Later, she earned her BA at the University of Toronto, and her MA from DePaul University, in cello performance. Upon completing her graduate studies she married musician Zebulun Barnow, and continued to reside in the United States for several years working as a teacher and performer.

Amber has toured China, Europe, and Canada, with various symphonies and ensembles.  She toured Canada with the Thin Edge New Music Collective with whom she recorded at the Glenn Gould Studio and released a full length album, including a world premier. She has collaborated with countless artists and ensembles including KYGO, SYML, Shawn Mendes, Leif Vollebekk, and Classic Albums Live, and has performed for TIFF and TedX.  As a freelance cellist, Amber has performed for Prime Ministers, Presidents, dignitaries and movie stars, and at venues spanning from Roy Thompson Hall, Koerner Hall, and Chicago Symphony Center to the Amsterdam Paradiso and the Berlin Kesselhaus.

Amber was simply amazing & elevated the vernissage to a whole other stratosphere!!
